The Mitutoyo 573-706 Digimatic offset centerline digital caliper uses Mitutoyo’s ABSOLUTE linear encoder technology and has an adjustable main scale jaw for measurement of center-to-center distances, edge-to-center measurements, and hole diameters. This caliper has accessible function control buttons, such as Origin-set, Zero-setting, Inch/Metric, Power On/Off, and Data Output, and uses both inch and metric measuring systems.
The 573-706 has the ABSOLUTE electrostatic capacitance type linear encoder. It weighs 177 g. Range is 0.4 - 8"/10 - 200 mm, resolution is 0.0005"/0.01 mm, and accuracy is rated + or - 0.0015". Calipers measure the distance between two opposing sides of an object. They make inside, outside, depth, or step measurements, according to their type. Calipers are commonly used in architecture, metalworking, mechanical engineering, machining, manufacturing, carpentry, and medicine. The simplest calipers have two legs to mark the two points and require a ruler to take the measurement. More complex calipers use two sets of jaws instead of legs and have up to two graduated scales.
